The Underwriters Laboratories Firefighter Safety Research Institute (UL) is encouraging communities to create a fire public service announcement (PSA) by creating a contest, with the winner receiving a $25,000 donation to their local volunteer fire department.
The institute is trying to spread the message for their campaign Close Before You Doze to encourage people to close the doors to their bedrooms before they go to sleep.
According to the institute, a closed bedroom door helps slow down the spread of fire and ultimately save lives.
The UL is asking the community to create a PSA encouraging others to close their door at bedtime. The winner of the contest will receive a $25,000 donation for their local volunteer fire department.
Some examples of PSA's include:
- A song
- An interpretive dance
- An animated short or comic book
All entries can be submitted to the UL online. The contest deadline is August 31.
