Wildfire in Williamson County burns hundreds of acres, remains mostly uncontained

UPDATE:

Officials report the San Gabriel fire in Williamson County has now burned 500 acres and is 25% contained. Those evacuated are allowed to return to their homes. Forward progression has been stopped, officials said.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Officials report a rapidly spreading wildfire is occurring in Williamson County and issued evacuation orders.

The Texas A&M Forest Service is providing assistance in extinguishing a fire in San Gabriel and Liberty Hill that has currently spread across 250 acres and is 10% contained.

Officials said everyone in a two-mile radius, approximately 200 homes, are being evacuated and are using Santa Rita Middle School as a shelter and reunification center for those residing in the Liberty Hill area.

Multiple agencies from the area are responding to the fire.

Resources used include large air tankers and fire bosses, officials said.

Officials did not specify the direction the fire is spreading.
