FALLS COUNTY, TX — Firefighters and volunteers who assisted during the fire at Church of the Visitation Parish in Westphalia on July 29 will be honored with a spaghetti dinner.

On Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., the firefighters and their families will be treated to dinner by the youth of the parish in the church hall to show their appreciation and gratitude.

“We are all grateful to those who responded to the fire that day, both in person and in prayer. Since the fire, our young people have been looking for a way to give back, to say ‘thank you’ to those who responded to the fire,” said Pastor Edwin Kagoo. “They have been motivated by the Gospel to be servants to the servants.”

The fire happened on July 29 and started at 7:50 a.m. A Westphalia volunteer firefighter requested the State Fire Marshal's Office to conduct an origin and cause examination of the scene.

The cause of the fire is undetermined. The report said there were no injuries or deaths in the fire.

Plans to rebuild the parish are still in progress. The fire destroyed the 124-year-old church in under 45 minutes.
