KILLEEN, TX — 'Tis the season!

Next week, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is expected to deliver more than 28 million packages and will average 20.5 million packages per day after Dec. 21.

USPS customers Mike and Debi Meskill shared they want their gifts to arrive before Santa hitches his sleigh for Christmas Day.

"I'm willing to spend what it takes to get it there when I want it there. I realize that it's crunch time," said Debi.

Excluding Alaska and Hawaii, when shipping here in the states, USPS officials shared if you want your packages delivered by Christmas Day, you need to follow these deadlines:

  • USPS Retail Ground Dec. 14
  • First-Class Mail Service Dec. 20
  • Priority Mail Service Dec. 21
  • Priority Mail Express Service Dec. 23

"If you wait till the last minute to send things out, then you're going to pay a premium to get it there when you need it there, so do it early if you can," added Mike.

If you have yet to ship off those precious gifts, the Postal Service has some advice.

  • Beer, wine and liquor may not be sent through the mail
  • Do not use boxes from a liquor store
  • Use sturdy boxes

For last minute shoppers, Dec. 23 marks Amazon Prime's last day for one-day delivery and Dec. 24 is the last day for same-day delivery.
