Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 rolling through Central Texas

A piece of history is rolling through Central Texas!

The Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 will stop in Bryan/ College Station, Hearne, and Jewett.

According to Union Pacific, 25 Big Boys were built exclusively for Union Pacific, the first of which were delivered in 1941. The locomotives were 132 feet long and weighed 1.2 million pounds.

Big Boy No. 4014 was delivered to Union Pacific in December 1941 and retired in December 1961. The locomotive traveled 1,031,205 miles during its 20 years of service.

It was then reacquired by Union Pacific in 2013 in Pomona, California, and relocated to Cheyenne, Wyoming. After a multi-year restoration process, it returned to service in May 2019 for the 150th anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad.

Big Boy No. 4014 will roll into Bryan/ College Station on Friday, November 8. The public will be able to see the locomotive at Wellborn Road and F&B Road between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

It will then depart Bryan/ College Station at 8 a.m., on Saturday, November 9, and head to Hearne. It will arrive at 2003 Market Street at 9:15 a.m. and depart at 9:30 a.m.

Big Boy No. 4014 will then make its way to Jewitt. It will arrive at the Division Street Crossing at 11:30 a.m. and depart at noon.
