MILAM COUNTY, TX — Two people have pleaded guilty for their parts in the 2016 murder of a Rockdale woman.

Emily Hacker went missing on Jan. 20, 2017. Just over a week later, her body was found in a shallow grave in rural Burleson County.

Candice Nicole Jones and Edward Brannon Barry each pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the 20th Judicial District Court on Thursday morning.

The state is seeking a 50-year sentence for both defendants. Jones and Barry waived all rights to an appeal.

In 2017, two others, John Steward and Ashley Wesson-Zawadzke, were also indicted in connection to Hacker’s murder.

Sentencing hearings for Jones and Barry have been scheduled for July.
