Two injured, one in custody after shooting at Mexia apartment complex

MEXIA, TX — Two people were injured and one person is in custody after a shooting at a Mexia apartment complex Wednesday evening.

Around 5:30 p.m. on November 18, the Mexia Police Department and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) units were dispatched to the Hillside Apartments on North Ross Avenue for an alleged shooting.

Officers on scene made contact with a 26-year-old man, who suffered minor injuries to his face after having been struck by broken glass. His car window was shot out by a suspect fleeing the parking lot in a vehicle.

Witnesses were able to provide police with a description of the suspect vehicle.

While officers were taking witness statements, they were notified that an 18-year-old man from Waco had been dropped off outside of the Parkview Regional Emergency Room in Mexia with a gunshot wound. He was dropped off by a man driving a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle.

The 26-year-old was treated at Parkview Regional Hospital and released. The 18-year-old was reported to have been shot in the abdomen. He was stabilized at Parkview then transferred by air ambulance to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Hillcrest in Waco for further evaluation and treatment.

At the scene of the shooting, officers observed a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle's description traveling northbound on North Ross Avenue. Officers conducted an investigative stop, which resulted in the arrest of a suspect.

He has been identified as 20-year-old Jeremiah Nathaniel Lee of Teague. He is currently suspected of multiple counts of aggravated assault, multiple firearms charges and various drug possession charges.

Investigators have opened a formal investigation into the incident.
