TEMPLE, TX — Temple Fire and Rescue responded to an apartment fire Monday evening.

According to officials, firefighters responded to a reported apartment fire at Canyon Creek Town Homes at 1476 Canyon Creen Drive at 5:52 p.m.

A neighbor called 911 after smelling smoke in her downstairs apartment and hearing the upstairs apartment smoke alarm activating. Firefighters forced entry into the upstairs apartment and discovered it was filled with smoke.

Fire crews began a systematic approach searching for the source of the smoke. It was later found out that work had been performed earlier during the day on air conditioning refrigerant lines.

Firefighters located fiber insulation board that overheated and smoldered from the soldering process.

The fire was determined to be unintentional. The fire loss to the building is estimated to be less than $3,000.

There were no injuries, and families from two apartments are temporarily displaced until repairs can be made.

They are staying with family members.

Temple police, Temple Fire and Rescue and EMS were at the scene.

The last unit cleared at 7:05 p.m.
