MILAM COUNTY, TX — A senior deputy with the Travis County Sheriff's Office was killed in a motorcycle accident in Milam County late Friday evening as he was driving home from Louisiana.

Sr. Deputy Robert (Drew) Small was killed in a collision in Milam County, according to the Travis County Sheriff's Office.

Deputy Small was driving a motorcycle and collided with another vehicle. The accident is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Texas DPS Troopers responded to the scene of a two vehicle fatality crash involving a motorcycle and passenger car Friday around 10:15P.M. on US 79, 4.5 miles East of Milano.

A 2013 Harley Davidson Motorcycle operated by Small, 48, of Wimberley, was traveling westbound on US 79.

A 2007 Pontiac G6 Sedan, operated by Joseph Charles Miller, 17, of Cameron was traveling eastbound on US 79.

For reasons unknown, the Pontiac Sedan crossed over into the westbound lane and collided with the motorcycle operated by Small.

Small was pronounced deceased on scene.

Deputy Small, 48, was assigned to the Motors Unit and was off duty, driving home from Louisiana at the time of the collision, TCSO said.

He joined TCSO in December 1995, starting his career in dispatch.

He served a corrections officer for several years, before becoming a deputy in 2006.

According to TCSO, Small worked night shift patrol in western Travis County for over a decade, then moved to the Motors Unit in December 2018.

"Deputy Small’s employee development file is stacked with letters of appreciation and commendation from the community," the sheriff's office said. "He recently received a Unit Citation for his work with the Special Response Team."

Deputy Small’s body will be escorted to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s office by TCSO Deputies.
