COLLEGE STATION, TX — A suspect was tasered by a College Station police officer during a robbery at a Kohl's.
Around 2:50 p.m. on November 27, officers responded to a theft in progress at the Kohl's located on Texas Avenue South.
As the first officer arrived, one subject fled in a silver vehicle. That subject was never located.
The officer was then informed that a second subject was still inside the store.
As the officer attempted to search him, the man began to fight. The officer deployed tasered him in an attempt to restrain him.
He was then restrained by the officer and a loss prevention employee.
The man was found to be in possession of stolen property. In the process of taking the property, the loss prevention officer sustained minor injuries.
The man was treated by the College Station Fire Department due to the Taser deployment. While being treated, the man attempted to throw a baggie into the trash.
The baggie was found to contain a "large amount" of a controlled substance.
The man was identified as 32-year-old Clifton Leon Benford, Jr. of College Station. He was transported to Brazos County Jail and charged with robbery, manufacture/ delivery of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence, resisting search and evading arrest.
