COPPERAS COVE, TX — Atmos Energy says some Copperas Cove residents may be without natural gas until Friday due to an outage.

The company said that around 4,000 customers are affected. The outage was caused by an issue with equipment.

The company says crews are working to restore natural gas service to affected homes and businesses throughout Copperas Cove due to a temporary system outage. Residents may see Atmos Energy trucks throughout the area, and all employees have an identification badge that displays that employee's name, photograph and the Atmos Energy Logo.

The Copperas Cove Fire Department has been notified and no evacuations have been issued.

"We expect the restoration process will continue throughout the day and into tomorrow, and affected customers will not have natural gas service during this time," said Celina Cardenas, Atmos Energy manager of communications. "We have engaged crews from across the region to ensure restoration is conducted as safely and efficiently as possible. Please be aware that we will need to access customers' natural gas meters throughout this process."

When natural gas is restored, an Atmos Energy technician will need to enter each customer's home to reestablish service. A resident 18-years-old or older will need to be present. If the customer is not home, a technician will leave a door tag with instructions on how to restore service.

Customers with questions are asked to contact the Atmos Energy customer contact center at 888-286-6700.

If you think you smell gas, act fast. Leave the area immediately and from a safe distance call 911 and the Atmos Energy emergency number at 866-322-8667.
