Soft lockdown lifted at Groesbeck High School after police investigate social media threat on campus

GROESBECK, TX — A soft lockdown at Groesbeck High School has been lifted.

According to Groesbeck police, the department received information via tip411 that a threat had been made by a former student. The threat was reported to involve the use of a firearm and it was made on social media.

The police department responded to the school and relayed the information that they received to school officials.

School administration initiated a soft lockdown on the campus while police conducted an investigation into the threat.

The suspect was not believed to be on the school property, but officers were placed around the campus to be cautious.

Police were able to find the suspect and locate him through his cell phone. The lockdown was then lifted by school officials when they heard a suspect was in custody.

The soft lockdown was initiated in accordance with school procedure and worked while police assessed the situation and conducted an investigation.

Groesbeck police were assisted by Mexia police.

This is still an ongoing investigation.
