WACO, TX — The dogs at the Humane Society of Central Texas have a friend in one staffer who goes above and beyond to find dogs good homes. Mike Gray goes beyond the walls and cages of the shelter to gain exposure for the dogs through events and news station shows.

Mike has worked at the shelter for a year now, and although his position is to train and support volunteers, he does all he can to make sure every dog is supported and trained as much as possible.

“We are technically open 11-6, says Kristi Schlee, a board member who works closely with Gray, “most of the staff starts getting here around 9. He probably gets here between 7 and 8 in the morning.”

Gray comes in early after a night of storms to ensure the dogs feel safe. He drives dogs around towns to events and news shows.

Gray has a strong bond with the dogs and an inspiring love for his work. Gray finds himself connecting to the dogs. Gray says, “Dogs are friendly and don't really care about what happened in the past and always have a good outlook - they're always happy and I just try to have that same personality.”
