A record number of people are expected to hit the roads as thanksgiving travels kicks into high gear.

Driving through Waco on a normal day is already slow, and construction has created multiple issues. Now add additional Thanksgiving commuters, and you have a potential travel nightmare.

"OMG. Bumper to bumper, sit still, worst nightmare. I'm having anxiety thinking about it. My hands are shaking and everything," said driver Teri Andrzejwski.

AAA says they expect a record 3.8 million people in Texas to hit the road for holiday plans.

"It's the most we've seen since 2005. Anticipate delays, try to plan ahead, find alternate routes before you get on the roadways," said Daniel Armbruster with AAA Texas.

Armbruster said that's because the economy has been good in Central Texas, and gas is about seven cents cheaper than last year.

Gas is lowest in McLennan County at about $2.20.

AAA says they anticipate assisting some 16,000 motorists from dead batteries, flat tires and lockouts.

So if you're planning on driving, remember to stay patient and be extra alert so you can make it to your Thanksgiving dinner safely
