Police searching for dog that attacked woman in Gatesville

GATESVILLE, TX — The Gatesville Police Department is searching for a dog they say attacked a woman Friday.

According to Gatesville PD, officers responded to an animal attack in the 1600 block of Waco Street on Friday, July 12.

Gatesville PD says the dog is described as a large red/brown dog that is just smaller than a Shetland pony.

Gatesville PD says the woman who was attack sustained "substantial injuries including a large laceration to her head." Gatesville PD says the woman will need surgery for the wound.

According to Gatesville PD, the dog could possibly be a Mastiff or Great Dane mix or a similar large-breed dog.

Animal Control and Gatesville Police have not been able to locate the dog since the attack.

Gatesville PD is asking anyone who sees a dog matching the description to not approach or try to catch the dog, and instead contact police.
