GATESVILLE, TX — Gatesville Police responded to a mental health crisis on Straw Mills Road.

Police say on Jan. 26 at around 6:56AM a phone call was made to the Gatesville Police Department regarding a man trying to hurt himself at a residence in the 400 block of Straws Mill Road.

The subject, described as a 57-year-old white male, reportedly had firearms readily accessible and made threats toward law enforcement officers if they came to his residence.

Negotiators from both Gatesville PD and the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and spoke with the subject several times by phone.

However, the man stopped communicating with the negotiators and his family a short time later.

After repeated phone call attempts with no communication, the SWAT Team from the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office breached the residence and located the man in a bedroom.

He had minor abrasions to his hands, but no major injuries.

He was taken in to custody on an Emergency Order of Detention and was transported to a Mental Health Inpatient Facility in Temple for evaluation.
