MEXIA, TX — The Mexia Police Department is investigating after an argument between two men escalated to a crash that left a home without power.

Around 9:30 a.m. on January 13, Mexia Police were dispatched to the 400 block of East Tyler Street regarding a disturbance.

Units from the Mexia Police Department and Mexia Fire Department responded to the scene.

A preliminary investigation by police determined that the disturbance began as a verbal altercation between two 20-year-old men at Ruby's Food Mart #5, located at 407 East Tyler Street.

The City of Mexia says as the two men were leaving the store parking lot, the altercation escalated when one of the men drove his vehicle into the other man's vehicle.

The man in the vehicle that was hit responded by shooting at the other vehicle.

The City of Mexia says the disturbance continued as the two vehicles were driven out of the parking lot and traveled westbound on East Tyler Street in an apparent chase. The chase ended in the 400 block of West Tyler Street, where the vehicles left the roadway.

One of the vehicles left the roadway and hit an unoccupied vehicle that was parked in the driveway of a home.

Neither the two men nor anyone at the home was injured.

In total, three vehicles received substantial damage and required towing from the scene. The crash also left the home without power.

ONCOR, Northland Communications, and City of Mexia personnel arrived on scene and began to work to restore power.

The two men involved in the altercation have been identified by the Mexia Police Department.

Police have opened a preliminary investigation into the incident and are withholding the names of the two men until the investigation is complete.
