COLLEGE STATION, TX — A man taking pictures of his gun while on the roof of a parking garage prompted active shooter rumors Tuesday night.

The College Station Police Department says around 5:20 p.m. on November 5, their dispatch received a call reporting a man with a rifle on the roof of a parking garage at Northpoint Crossing, a mixed-use residential and commercial property located near University Drive and Texas Avenue.

No gunfire or other threatening behavior was reported.

Responding officers were initially unable to immediatly locate the man. Additional resources were called out, including the department's Criminal Investigation Division, Special Weapons and Tactics Team, Hostage Negotiation Team, College Station Fire Department and first responders from the City of Bryan.

The man was eventually located at 7:30 p.m. after he left a local restaurant.

Detectives met with the man and confirmed he had been taking pictures of his gun on the roof of the parking garage.

Detectives determined the man had not engaged in any "threatening or nefarious behavior." He was not arrested and no charges are anticipated.

Numerous social media posts began circulating with reports of an active shooter at Northpoint. College Station PD wants to remind the community to not share alarming rumors on social media without first confirming with an official source, especially in the absence of firsthand account.
