Man flown to hospital after jumping from railroad overpass in Mexia

MEXIA, TX — A man was flown to the hospital Tuesday evening after he allegedly jumped from a railroad overpass in Mexia.

Around 7:57 p.m., the Mexia Police Department and Emergency Medical Services Department personnel were dispatched to a call that a person had jumped off the railroad overpass at the intersection of the Union Pacific Railroad track and U.S, 84.

When authorities arrived on-scene, they discovered an injured man lying on the ground on the north side of the overpass.

He was treated on-scene then transported to Hillcrest Hospital via Air Ambulance for further evaluation and treatment.

Officials say the man's condition is unknown at this time, and no further patient details are available for release pending notification of next-of-kin.

Mexia PD has opened an investigation into the incident. Authorities say no foul play is suspected, and the incident is being treated as a suspected suicide attempt.
