MARLIN, TX — One man is dead this morning after a crash on FM 147 east of Marlin on Sunday night.

The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Christopher Lang.

Officials say the crash happened around 10 p.m.

Officers say a car went off the road and into a ditch before hitting a tree.

The car broke into pieces at that point, continuing past the tree, rolling several times.

Police say the driver died at the scene.

Sergeant Ryan W. Howard of the Texas Department of Public Safety explained "right now we're investigating to see what the actual factor was but as you mentioned, it could have been racing, we don't have that information yet so we're looking into it to figure out what happened."

FM 147 was closed for several hours, but the debris was cleared, and the roadway reopened.

The Marlin Fire Department, Falls County Sheriff's Office, and the Department of Public Safety responded to the scene.

Sergeant Howard explained in closing "my safety message to people is just to slow down and make sure we're following the posted speed limit. You know if you're driving faster than the posted speed limit and you're involved in a crash the injury severity could be highly increased so just reduce your speed."
