Multiple warming centers have opened due to the freezing temperatures.

Central Texas

  • Baylor University - An emergency warming location will open at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the SLC, limited to students who are without power, heat or water at their apartments or homes and have no other options. This location will remain open until the weather and power situation improves across our area.
  • Belton ISD will be opening North Belton Middle School and Belton Middle School to serve as a place to get out of the cold and charge devices. These warming stations will be open from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. At this time, these are not overnight locations and can not accommodate your family pets.
  • Copperas Cove Civic Center (1206 W Avenue B) in Copperas Cove
  • Copperas Cove ISD’s Hettie Halstead Elementary – 910 N. Main Street
  • Church of the Open Door (900 Loop 340) in Bellmead
  • Copperas Cove Public Library (501 S. Main Street) in Copperas Cove
  • First United Methodist Church, 102 N. Second St., will be opening as a warming shelter at 5:30 p.m.
  • Fort Hood - Soldiers and their families who live off post in dire need of a place to warm up can visit the Community Event Center on Fort Hood, starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The warming center will be open 24-hours-a-day until further notice with a occupancy capacity of 125 due to COVID safety considerations.
  • Gatesville - County Anex at 8th and Main in Gatesville People are encouraged to bring their own blankets, pillows, etc.
  • Harker Heights Recreation Center (307 Millers Crossing) Please bring your blankets.
  • Killeen - Skyline Baptist Church (906 Trimmier Rd) in Killeen
  • Lampasas - The Catholic Church has set up as a warming station again today. They are also preparing some food for today at lunch time or shortly after. The Methodist Church is organizing transportation for people and attempting to locate places for people to stay overnight, if needed.
  • McGregor - Warming center will be set up at the high school again Tuesday night from 5pm-8am. We will be following covid 19 protocols and mask will be required. You will need to bring your own food and blankets. This is for anyone in the McGregor community that doesn't have electricity.
  • Mexia Shelter - VFW Post 4694 on HWY 14 is open and they have plenty of room. Does not have cots or blankets. They do have food
  • Robinson - Meadowbrook Baptist Church (1207 N Old Robinson Rd) in Robinson
  • Robinson Elementary School (151 Peplow Drive) in Robinson
  • The following facilities are available as warming shelters in Temple:
    • Temple Bible Church, 3205 Oakview Dr.
    • St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1018 S 7th St.
      • Pets are accepted, must be secured in a kennel or on leash.
    • St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 2807 Oakdale Dr.
    • Immanuel Baptist Church, 1401 W. Central Ave. – Opens at 2 p.m.
      • Pets are accepted, must be secured in a kennel or on leash.
    • Salvation Army, 419 W. Ave. G
  • Impact Temple Church (306 E Adams Ave) in Temple
  • Village of Salado has opened a warming center at the Salado Civic Center located at 601 N. Main Street in Salado. The center will be open as long as there is a demand. Guests must wear masks and social distance. Pets are discouraged. There is no food or bedding available.
  • West - St. Mary’s Catholic School in West

Brazos Valley

  • Reed Arena at Texas A&M - opening to the public at 4 P.M., Feb 16, and will operate until Thursday, Feb 18 at noon. People are advised to show up before 7 P.M. and provide their own blankets, pillows, sleeping bags, and snacks/food.

  • Leon County Senior Center behind the community center in Buffalo
  • The new City Hall Civic Center in Buffalo
  • The lower junior high school gymnasium in Buffalo
  • Leon County Senior Center on Lassiter Street in Centerville
  • Pridgeon Center (351 Cooks Lane) in Franklin
