Suspect identified and charged with Capital Murder from Friday afternoon homicide: Killeen PD

UPDATE

KILLEEN, Texas — The Killeen Police Department said charges have been filed against the suspect arrested for the murder of 53-year-old Tina McGruder and 75-year-old Deanne McGruder that occurred on Dec. 8.

The suspect, 26-year-old Louis Lamar Simpson Jr., has been charged with Capital Murder by the Bell County District Attorney's Office after sending a complaint to detectives with the Robbery-Homicide Unit.

The department said Simpson was arraigned by Judge Cliff Coleman, and he has his bond set at $3 million dollars.

Simpson is currently being held at the Bell County Jail.

KILLEEN, Texas — Detectives from Killeen PD's Criminal Investigation Division have identified the two victims in Friday afternoon's shooting.

53-year-old Tina McGruder was pronounced dead at 2:29 p.m. and 75-year-old Deanne McGruder was pronounced dead at 2:42 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson.

Police said the suspect in custody is pending formal charges from the Bell County District Attorney's Office.

Killeen Police said this is the tenth murder investigation for 2023.

KILLEEN, Texas — One man is in custody after he shot and killed two women inside of a home in Killeen on Friday afternoon.

Police were called to the 2300 block of Basalt Drive for a domestic disturbance at around 1:30 p.m. where a man was seen exiting the residence, where officers heard screaming inside.

According to the Killeen Police Department, officers detained the man and went inside the home to find two females suffering from gunshot wounds.

"Officers immediately started to perform life saving measures until paramedics arrived," authorities said.

Both victims were transported to different hospitals in critical condition — both died on Friday.

The females' names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time, and police say there is no immediate threat to the public.
