ITASCA, Texas (KXXV) — UPDATE:
Texas DPS released the following update on Friday morning:
The passenger of the Mercedes-Benz, Sheldon Gutierrez-Rangel, 25, of Dallas, has succumbed to his injuries. The driver remains in critical condition. Next of kin has been notified.
ORIGINAL:
Two people are in critical condition after a Union Pacific train hit a FedEx van in Hill County, Texas.
State troopers say the crash happened just north of Itasca. The train hit the van as it crossed the tracks. Medics rushed the driver and passenger to the hospital.
No one else was hurt and the train did not derail.
Parts of State Highway 81 and FM 67 were closed. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area.
