6-year-old hit by truck on Christmas dies in hospital

ROBERTSON COUNTY, TX — A 6-year-old has died days after he was hit by a truck while riding a 4-wheeler on Christmas morning. He passed away at 12:54 a.m. Friday morning.

The crash happened around 10:15 a.m. on FM 46 near Morgan Lane in Robertson County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 2002 Ford Ranger was traveling south on FM 46 when the boy came out onto the roadway from a private drive.

DPS says the driver, identified as 18-year-old Katlyne Martinez of Franklin, kept going until her truck became disabled a few miles south.

The child, Triton Howell, was taken to a Houston hospital. He died Friday morning.

Martinez was arrested at the scene for failure to stop and render aid with serious injuries. She has been booked into the Robertson County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

The Robertson County Sheriff's Office shut down Hughes Cutoff Road and Morgan Lane Wednesday morning while emergency crews were on-scene. The area has since been reopened.
