19-year-old female fatally shot at Texas Renaissance Festival, suspect in custody

TODD MISSION, TX — The Grimes County Sheriff's Office is investigating a death Sunday morning on the campgrounds of the Texas Renaissance Festival after a 19-year-old woman was shot in the abdomen.

Isabella Cimetta of Spring, Texas died at the hospital this morning, according to Grimes County Sheriff Don Sowell.

The suspect, 22-year-old Sean Campbell, is in custody charged with 2 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon - 2nd degree felony.

Deputies with the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a disturbance that occurred within the Campgrounds area of the Texas Renaissance Festival around 2:40 AM Sunday.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a witness stated that he and Cimetta were arguing. The witness says Campbell pointed a gun at his head at which point he tried to disarm Campbell when the handgun discharged. Cimetta suffered a gunshot wound to her abdomen as a result.

Campbell immediately left the scene, according to the affidavit. He was located a short time later in a vehicle near the scene. The gun was located in the glove compartment.

Campbell admitted to deputies that he fired the handgun during the altercation.

While Deputies were investigating this incident, it was discovered a 19-year-old female had a single gunshot wound to her abdomen.

She was transported by Air Medical to CHI St Joseph’s in Bryan where she succumbed to her injuries.

The female victim has been identified as Isabella Cimetta of Spring, Texas.

A male subject was taken into custody as a result of this incident.

He has been identified as Sean Campbell, 22.

Campbell has been charged with 2 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Cimetta and Campbell were acquaintances and traveled to the Renaissance Festival together with friends, according to the Grimes County Sheriff's Office.

This investigation is ongoing and is an isolated incident.

The public is in no danger, the Sheriff's Office said. No further information will be released at this time.

The investigation is taking place on the campgrounds of the festival.

The Texas Renaissance Festival told 25 News in a statement that an incident occurred at the Texas Renaissance Festival (TRF) Fields of New Market Campground in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 25, 2020.

"Authorities are on the scene investigating. TRF is supporting the investigation," the statement said.
