GOLINDA, TX — Golinda community members have gathered at Golinda Baptist Church for 17 weeks now to cook, serve and deliver free meals to seniors and shut-ins in Golinda and Chilton.
The hard-working ladies get started at 8:30 Friday mornings to get cooking. Deliveries begin running at 11 a.m. and a senior lunch Is hosted at Golinda Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at noon.
Wanda Ray said, “the Lord put it on my heart about people who were shut in and needed a little bit of help with food.”
These deliveries are a labor of love - making an impact extending beyond the recipients.
Some community members have even pitched in to buy fans when a meal deliverer noticed a senior was without air conditioning. It doesn’t stop there.
“We had an individual donate a whole yearling,” Wanda says, “and is having it processed and is going to deliver it to us and that’s going to help a lot.”
Senior Lunch was kick started by a group of Vacation Bible School students from Golinda Baptist Church, who gathered $163 to get the weekly event started.
The meals are donation-based and for any senior looking to eat a hot meal from the comfort of their home or from Fellowship Hall.
Senior Lunch recipient Shirley Graves says, “I can’t wait to see what’s in today’s meal!”
