GATESVILLE, TX — Gatesville ISD will be suspending all summer workouts and closing GISD athletic facilities for the next two weeks after a student-athlete tested positive for COVID-19.

This will include all strength and conditioning workouts, sport-specific skill sessions and sport camps that were on the calendar the weeks of June 29-July 3 and July 6-10, according to a letter from GISD's Athletic Director Rickey Phillips.

All GISD athletic facilities will also be closed during this 2-week period.

Gatesville ISD says their decision came after a junior high student athlete tested positive for COVID-19.

"That particular female athlete was not at any GISD-sponsored workouts last week but was around other GISD students that were in attendance at various workouts and practices," Phillips said.

The district also wants to ensure the safety of all GISD athletes and coaches, and are planning to re-sanitize all athletic facilities again.

The GHS Baseball Camp slated next week is also cancelled and will be re-scheduled for a later date in July.

All workouts will resume on July 13, according to Phillips.

Coaches will be sending revised/updated workout schedules for the final three weeks.
