MEXIA, TX — Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a fire at a Mexia hotel Tuesday night.

Around 8:36 p.m. on July 7, units of the Mexia Fire Department were dispatched to a fire alarm call at the Comfort Inn and Suites, located at 820 West Milam Street.

When units arrived, firefighters spotted smoke coming from the ground floor and quickly located the source of the fire in a storage closet just off the lobby.

The hotel's fire suppression system had previously activated. Firefighters were able to fully extinguish the fire with hand-held extinguishers. The fire was declared fully out at 9:06 p.m.

Guests were quickly evacuated from all three floors of the building, and there were no injuries reported at the scene.

Hotel staff quickly rebooked guests into other hotels in the local area.

Fire damage was limited to the storage area off the lobby. Hotel operators expect to be able to reopen in one or two days.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
