LIMESTONE COUNTY — West Lake Limestone Volunteer Fire Department responded to a half acre brush fire in Limestone County Saturday morning around 10 a.m.

Officials said the fire was located in a ditch behind a chicken house facility on private property. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Chief McWhirter of the West Lake Limestone VFD said it took about an hour and a half to put the fire out. They had eight firefighters on the scene and used about 1,500 gallons of water and four pieces of equipment.

The Chief said he expects it will be a busy season as things start drying out.

Groesbeck Fire-Rescue also responded to the fire. "Quick attack by the West Lake Limestone VFD followed by hand line around perimeter and mop up of this one acre fire by 6 Groesbeck Fire-Rescue personnel made short work of the incident," said Groesbeck Fire-Rescue in a Facebook post.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported with the fire.
