End of watch: 6 CTX officials have died in the line of duty in the last 5 years

CENTRAL TEXAS — Since 2015, six Central Texas law enforcement officials have died in the line of duty.

Here is a list of their end of watch:

Deputy Matt Jones

Deputy Matt Jones was struck and killed by a vehicle as he and Riesel Police Chief Danny Krumnow assisted a vehicle on Highway 6 near CR 190.

He was killed on Oct. 11, 2019, at the age of 30.

Deputy Jones was with the Falls County Sheriff's Office for four years.

Another vehicle was approaching the scene and hydroplaned on the wet road surface. The vehicle then struck both Deputy Jones, who was killed, and Chief Krumnow, who is seriously injured.

Deputy Jones is survived by his wife, parents and siblings.

Senior Trooper Thomas Patrick Nipper

Senior Trooper Tom Nipper was killed by a vehicle crash on Nov. 4, 2017. He was killed while conducting a traffic stop on southbound I-35 near Midway Drive in Temple.

He died at the age of 63.

Trooper Nipper was sitting in his patrol vehicle during the traffic stop when it was struck from behind by a pickup truck. The impact of the crash caused the patrol vehicle to strike the stopped vehicle and Trooper Nipper.

He was transported to Baylor Scott and White and died from his injuries.

Trooper Nipper was with the Texas Highway Patrol for almost 35 years. In total, he was with law enforcement for almost 44 years.

Before the Texas Highway Patrol, he served with Nolanville police, Hereford police, Coryell County Sheriff's Office, Belton police and Gainesville police.

He is survived by his wife and three children.

Trooper Damon Allen

Trooper Damon Allen was shot and killed while making a traffic stop on I-45 in Freestone County. He was killed on Nov. 23, 2017.

He was killed at approximately 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. He died at the age of 41.

Trooper Allen had contacted the driver and was returning to his patrol car when the man got out of the car, and opened fire.

Trooper Allen was killed at the scene.

He served with the Texas Highway Patrol for 15 years.

He is survived by his wife and four children.

Deputy Constable Jeffrey Emmons Radford

Deputy Constable Jeffrey Radford was killed in a vehicle crash at the intersection of Lucius McCelvey Drive and NW Dodgen Loop in Temple.

He died on Oct. 28, 2015, at the age of 69.

Deputy Radford was returning to Temple after serving papers in Troy when his patrol car collided with another car. He was transported to the hospital, and died from his injuries.

The two other people involved in the second vehicle were also injured.

Deputy Radford served with the Bell County Precinct 3 Constable's Office for two years. He had served in law enforcement since 1987, for 28 years.

He is survived by his two sons and a brother.

Sergeant William Karl Keesee

Sergeant Karl Keesee was killed in a single vehicle crash on U.S. 84 near Goldthwaite.

He died on Oct. 29, 2015 at the age of 49.

Sergeant Keesee left the roadway in his patrol car and overturned. He suffered fatal injuries.

He served with the Texas Highway Patrol for 25 years and was assigned to Brownwood, Region 5.

Chief Darrell Lamond Allen

Chief Darrell Allen died from a gunshot wound sustained 10 days earlier while struggling with a man inside of a club in Temple.

He died on Nov. 10, 2015, at the age of 43. He was the chief of police for the Marlin Police Department.

Chief Allen and another Marlin police officer were working on an assignment at the club when he attempted to arrest a man for creating a disturbance.

The man produced a handgun and shot Chief Allen in the face as the two struggled.

Chief Allen was transported to Baylor Scott and White where he died from his injuries.

He served in law enforcement for 21 years.

He was survived by his wife and children.
