Copperas Cove officials said a team will be in the Big Divide area on Monday to assess the damage caused by the EF-02 tornado that struck on June 9.

This preliminary disaster assessment will be performed by the Building Officials Association of Texas (BOAT) Disaster Response Team.

The assessment is part of an effort to gather information on the magnitude of the damage to homes and property adjacent to Big Divide road.

If approached by someone with the team, officials say residents should not be alarmed and are encouraged to share information with them.

Members of the team will be wearing identification tags that say "BOAT Disaster Response Team."

Officials said this assessment will not replace the assessments to be completed by a property owner's insurance company.

Officials said the map released showing damaged properties marked with red dots is not a comprehensive list. It was a preliminary map completed the day of the tornado.

If your property was damaged but was not on that map or noticed immediately, it does not mean you cannot seek assistance from your insurance company.
