HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — The dinosaur bones found at a construction site in Highlands Ranch in late May were confirmed to be from a large adult triceratops.

On Friday, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science said they had positively identified the bones of the prehistoric animal.

Workers at the construction site unearthed the bones about a month ago near the Wind Crest retirement community, museum representatives said. The first bones uncovered were a limb bone and ribs.

Representatives from the museum said they hope to have more information on this discovery and identification next week.

This was the second significant fossil discovery in the past few years. In 2017, crews discovered the horns of a torosaurus , a close relative of the triceratops, and other dinosaur bones during construction of a police substation in Thornton.
