The past few months have been hard on students, but some children are still able to make achievements that are getting recognized nationally.

The student council at Martin Walker Elementary School in Copperas Cove has been awarded the nation’s School of Excellence Award.

They are just one of 19 student councils receiving the award out of the more than 90-thousands elementary schools across the country.

The president of Martin Walker Elementary’s student council has a message for all the other student councils out there.

“Keep on doing student council and be yourself. Keen ongoing, don’t give up and you will get honored one day. I'm pretty sure, for sure,” Lillianne, Student Council President, Martin Walker Elementary said.

Martin Walker Elementary's Junior Historian Leadership Council was selected based on its submission of projects that the council completed during 2019-2020.

They said the most rewarding project was the laying of wreaths at the Central Texas State Veterans cemetery.
