BRYAN, TX — A man was arrested and charged after police said he was trying to sell Dawn soap as cocaine to "make some extra money."

According to the affidavit, on Tuesday at 5:30 a.m., an officer saw two suspects walking in the roadway where a sidewalk was provided in the 1200 block of W. 17th Street. When the officer tried to stop them, they did not immediately stop.

One of the suspects was later identified as 42-year-old Darrin Fletcher.

Fletcher began walking across the road and the officer told him to stop. The other suspect, 42-year-old Manvel Ginn, began to get agitated with the officer when he started asking questions. Fletcher tried to walk away from the officer.

It was after the third time Fletcher began to walk away from the officer that he was arrested. Fletcher attempted to evade arrest, but was eventually detained by the officer.

Both Fletcher and Ginn were ran through the system and both had warrants for their arrest.

After they were both put into the back of the police car, an officer spotted a clear plastic bag with a white rock substance inside. When Fletcher and Ginn were asked what was inside the bag, they both said it did not belong to them.

The bag was later taken in for testing.

After re-watching the car video, the officer found that Fletcher dropped the bag on the floor.

When the officer confronted Fletcher asking if it was cocaine, he said it was Dawn soap. Fletcher said he cut up soap so he could "make some extra money." He later stated that he knew that he was intentionally selling soap instead of drugs.

The substance in the bag was tested twice and it did not have a positive result.

Fletcher was later charged with unlawful delivery or manufacture with intent to deliver simulated narcotics. He also showed to have a previous conviction for evading arrest out of Brazos County.

His bond is set at $5,000.
