Man arrested after he shot, killed 28-year-old identified

WHITNEY, TX — A 73-year-old man was arrested after a 28-year-old man was shot and killed in Whitney.

According to the Hill County Sheriff's Office, around 1:06p.m. on July 18, the Hill County Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a 911 call regarding a disturbance at a residence off of FM 2604 in Whitney. Communications personnel were told by the caller that a man had been shot during the disturbance.

HCSO says when deputies arrived, they located a 73-year-old man being detained by witnesses in the front yard. They then located a 28-year-old man inside the residence suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Hill County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Martis Ward responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead. The suspect was arrested at the scene and taken to an area hospital to be treated for injuries he sustained while being detained by witnesses.

The suspect was identified as Elvin Dewayne Gage and the victim was identified as Anthony Dewayne Johnson Jr.
