WHITNEY, TX — A 13-year-old girl drowned in Lake Whitney at Cedar Creek Park Monday evening.
According to the Hill County Sheriff's Department, they received a call for a possible drowning at Cedar Creek Park before 6 p.m. When deputies arrived, they learned a group of younger kids had been swimming in the lake when a 13-year-old girl went under the water and did not return.
HCSO says multiple departments came out to search for the girl, including HCSO, Hill County Office of Emergency Management, the Whitney Volunteer Fire Department and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Division.
According to HCSO, the body of the girl was found in the water shortly after 7 p.m. Justice of the Peace Martis Ward pronounced the girl deceased.
The girl's visitation was held in Cleburne at Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home on Thursday. Her services were held on Friday at 10 a.m.
