Governor Abbott says state sees 142 increase in beds due to executive orders

Governor Greg Abbott gave an update on medical supplies during a press conference on Friday.

Abbott said that due to his recent executive orders, there has been a 142 percent increase in beds.

He also talked about detailed numbers in Texas. The state has nearly 20,000 beds available, and he said the state has a little over 8,000 ventilators and 2,000 ICU beds.

In terms of testing, he said that the state is receiving a new test that will have COVID-19 results within minutes. He said 10,000 tests are on their way now, and then 20,000 tests will be provided each week.

During the press conference, he said that 55,000 Texans have been tested for COVID-19, but only 5,478 have tested positive.

He said that in the state, there have been 91 fatalities and 827 people are in hospitals.

He also gave updated numbers on supplies. He said the state has over 1 million face masks and over 2 million gloves.
