DALLAS (AP) — Police in Dallas say a person driving a suspected stolen pickup truck was fatally shot by an officer from suburban Farmers Branch.

A police news release says the shooting occurred about 7 p.m. Wednesday in northwest Dallas, about 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) south of Farmers Branch as the officer approached the vehicle in a parking lot and the driver began to pull away.

Police say the driver was pronounced dead at a hospital while two other people in the vehicle were uninjured and are being questioned. Police say the officer suffered an undisclosed "minor" injury.

No names have been released.

Farmers Branch Officer Steven Rutherford said the vehicle was spotted in Farmers Branch and officers followed it into Dallas where the shooting occurred. Rutherford said the officer is now on paid leave.
