SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Prosecutors say a San Antonio man has been sentenced to the maximum 12 years in prison for the reckless fatal shooting of his teenage son after the father used drugs and drank alcohol.

Andres Delgado III was sentenced Friday in San Antonio after pleading no contest last month to manslaughter in the 2018 death.

Attorneys for the 45-year-old father said he thought someone was breaking into the family's home when he accidentally shot 14-year-old Andres Delgado IV as the boy slept in bed.

Prosecutors say the elder Delgado used cocaine and drank alcohol on March 14, 2018, before opening fire with five guns. Bullets and fragments were recovered from several rooms.

Investigators found no evidence of anyone breaking into or shooting at the residence.
