Texas lawmaker wants to make Selena’s birthday a state holiday

AUSTIN, TX — A Texas lawmaker has proposed a bill that would make April 16, Selena Quintanilla Pérez’s birthday, a state holiday.

The bill was proposed on February 26 by Texas Representative Ana-Maria Ramos, D-Richardson.

House Bill No. 2492 proposes that April 16 is Selena Quintanilla Pérez Day in memory of the contributions to Tejano music of Selena Quintanilla Pérez.

If passed, the first Selena Quintanilla Pérez Day would be April 16, 2020.
