CENTRAL TEXAS — Hewitt has been ranked the 12th safest city in Texas, according to a study.
The study, Background Checks, said Texas ranks in the middle of the pack in terms of safety.
With the size and diversity of the state, Texas has a large section of very safe cities with low violent and property crime rates, according to the study.
Ranking at number one was Memorial Villages. The village is a group of adjoining groups west of downtown Houston.
Belton ranked the 50th safest city in Texas.
Killeen ranked 131, ahead of Odessa, Corpus Christi, Houston and San Antonio.
