WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Trump has approved the disaster declaration made by the State of Texas after last month's severe storms and flooding.

According to a press release from the White House, President Trump declared that a major disaster exists in the State of Texas and ordered Federal assistance to supplement State and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by the severe weather that occurred from June 24 to June 25.

The president's approval allows affected individuals in Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy Counties to receive federal funding through Individual Assistance.

Individual Assistance can include "grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster."

Residents and business owners who sustained losses in the designated counties can begin applying for assistance by registering online or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. The toll-free telephone numbers are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.
