MCALLEN, TX — A police officer with the San Juan Police Department has been charged after he allegedly kneed a handcuffed man in the groin area.
Sergeant Juan P. Galindo of Weslaco was arrested Monday for civil rights violation after an indictment was returned on Wednesday, December 4.
According to the indictment, in December 2015, Sgt. Galindo allegedly physically assaulted a man while he was in custody. The victim had been handcuffed and under police control when Sgt. Galindo allegedly hit him in the groin area with his knee.
If convicted, Sgt. Galindo could face up to 10 years in federal prison and a maximum $250,000 fine.
Sgt. Galindo is expected to make his initial appearance in court on December 10 at 11 a.m.
