A driver in Harris County, Texas is now the first victim of flooding caused by Imelda, which is now a tropical depression.

Sheriff's deputies said the middle-aged man tried to drive through a flooded roadway and ended up in about eight feet of water.

The victim was pulled from the flooded vehicle.

He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, but he was pronounced dead.

"The preliminary information that we have is that the van was traveling westbound towards Bush airport, as it approached the underpass they could see that the waterline was around 7 or 8 feet maybe and the vehicle continued to go forward," said Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. "It did come to a pause and according to witnesses for some odd unknown reason he just punched it and tried to drive through it some more."

Although the high waters are beginning to receded, officials warn it is still dangerous for residents to drive in the roads.
