BASTROP, TX (KVUE) — A driver was airlifted to a hospital Thursday afternoon after crashing with a nearly-empty school bus in Bastrop County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a Subaru was driving east on FM 535, approaching FM 20. DPS said the driver of the Subaru drove through the stop sign on FM 535 and hit a school bus.

The driver of the Subaru was airlifted to a hospital in Austin with serious injuries.

The bus, which had no students on board, traveled off the roadway and overturned, DPS said. The driver of the school bus and bus monitor were taken as a precaution to a hospital in Austin.

DPS troopers are continuing to investigate the crash.

DPS officials would like to remind all drivers to slow down and adjust to adverse weather and road conditions. Drivers should minimize distractions, don’t drive fatigued, don’t drink and drive, obey traffic control devices and always wear your safety belt.
