AUSTIN, TX — The Texas Department of Public Safety has launched a webpage and automated telephone line to help verify Texas License to Carry (LTC) permits.

The tools allow Federal Firearms Licensees (FFL) to determine if a person's LTC permit is valid when the permit is being used to purchase a firearm.

According to DPS, a valid Texas LTC may be used as an alternative permit to authorize a firearm transfer without the otherwise required national instant criminal background check.

The department says they are not aware of an invalid LTC being used to purchase a firearm, but they want to provide FFL's with a convenient way to verify LTC's as a safeguard.

DPS says the public webpage and telephone line are voluntary but highly encouraged.

To access the website, click here, or call the telephone line at (512) 424-5700.
