LAREDO, TX — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a sex trafficking case after a traffic stop in Webb County.

DPS says on Oct. 11, around 7:30pm, a DPS Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2012 Subaru SUV for a traffic violation and found illegal drugs inside the vehicle on Interstate Highway 35 near mile marker 24 in Webb County.

The two occupants later admitted to DPS investigators that they were traveling to Laredo, Texas, to pick up an adult female that would later be delivered to a prostitution ring in San Antonio.

DPS Criminal Investigation Division and DPS Highway Patrol officers were able to locate and rescue the female victim and take her into protective custody.

Both the driver and passenger were later arrested and charged with trafficking of a person for prostitution, engaging in organized criminal activity and possession of a controlled substance.

Both were booked into the Webb County Jail, according to DPS.
