DALLAS — A Dallas woman was arrested on Friday after two starving dogs were found covered in feces inside an apartment.

The SPCA of Texas said the dogs were removed from the apartment on Feb. 25 when police were notified of two dogs in distress by an apartment manager. Animal cruelty detectives spoke with the owner, who agreed to surrender the dogs.

The dogs, who appeared severely underweight, did not have access to food or water and were found confined to separate crates that were each covered in dried feces.

They were examined by a veterinarian at SPCA of Texas' Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center and placed on a starvation feeding protocol. SPCA said the dogs had been covered in urine and feces for so long that sores developed on their bodies.

The SPCA of Texas said 26-year-old Corinne O'Hara was arrested by Dallas police for animal cruelty on Friday for failing to provide necessary food, water, care or shelter for the animals.

The two dogs will remain under the care of SPCA of Texas until they are healthy enough for adoption.
