Copperas Cove police department investigate fatal overnight shooting

COPPERAS COVE, TX — UPDATE:
During the investigation, Detectives discovered a subject in the area shortly before the incident took place.

The attached image is infrared and does not display accurate colors of the subject's clothing.

The Copperas Cove Police Department is requesting the community’s assistance in identifying this person of interest.

ORIGINAL STORY:

On July 23, 2020, at approximately 11:13 pm, Copperas Cove Police Officers responded to the intersection of S. 7th Street and W. Avenue E in reference to shots being fired.

Upon arrival, officers located a male gunshot victim in the roadway, who did not display any signs of life.

The Copperas Cove Fire Department EMS arrived on scene and confirmed the victim was deceased.

The victim was identified as Devonn Dozell Mayhew who was a 21-year-old resident of Copperas Cove.

The incident is still being investigated, and additional details will be distributed as the investigation progresses.
