Beaumont Police officer killed in wrong-way crash

BEAUMONT, TX — A Beaumont Police officer was killed in the line of duty early Sunday after his patrol unit was struck by a vehicle traveling the wrong way.

Another officer was left in serious condition.

On Sunday, August 9, 2020 at 2:30 a.m., two Beaumont Police officers were traveling Northbound on Cardinal Dr. (Hwy 69).

Preliminary information indicates that their patrol unit was struck head-on by a Ford Mustang traveling the wrong way near the Hwy. 347 overpass.

One officer was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.

The second officer was pronounced deceased on the scene.

State Troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety have been called in to investigate the crash.

The sole occupant of the mustang was transported to a hospital.

The names of the involved officers are being withheld at this time.
